Feedbacks on music video digipak

We had to present our ideas for our music video digipak, last lesson we had to make a daft, as below, and then we presented it the to the class.

The feedback:

1. Good illustration shows good visual effect, this showed them that we knew we exactly what we wanted each side to look like
2. Each of the images showed significant stages in her life which links to the video
3. The cracked Cd portrayed the broken heart of the girl
4. The use of the black and white showed loneliness and depression. Her eyes are closed shows that she is in her own world
5. They liked the contrast of colour with the black and white pictures, this shows the contrast of her emotions.
6. The Cd cover fits in well with the RnB genre, this is because typically they have the close up of the artist making it look emotional
7. They think we need to mainpulate our images more, this is because it needs to stand out more

Ideas for CD cover

In this blog i am going to put ideas on how i would like my CD cover to be for when i promote my music video the images i am going to put put is album covers from other musical artists


1) I chose this image mainly because of the idea of the spilt screen, with the spilt screen as the front cover, this idea would be consistent with my music video. With this album cover I also like the the text of 'Usher Vs Raymond', this is obviously showing competition and rivalry between the two people.

Also, with this image of the same person on either side on the cover I also want to incorporate into my album cover, but in my album cover I want two different images of the same person to be more obvious than compared to the image on the left, this would hopefully added to create dramatics to the separate personalities. This would be done in different clothing, positions of posing.

With the special effects in the background of this image, which is the smoke effect, well that's the one i want to focus on, the added smoke adds more depth to the total look.

2) I chose this cover because i love the emotion which is presented. This is the type of emotion and dramatics which well represent the music video as well

The presentation why still filming

We had to present to our media class where we have filmed up to, in our music video which we showed was combined with actual shots and the animatics. This was because we hadn't finished filming and we didn't want the audience to feel lost and also to show them what we still had to do. Here is the feedback below:

Positive Feedback

• Frstly they like the use of shots, they said that they were steady and

Negative Feedback

• When we were filming Jermaine and Fatimata during when they having a picinic. Our shadow when filming them close was there, as a result we were planning to use a different shot.

Feedback- first edited draft

In class I had present my first draft of my music video to my fellow classmates and say what they liked and disliked about my music video

Negatives:

• Most of the shots used in the music video were longer in comparison with the beat of the music, so to improve this, making a scene with her singing the music in a different setting could be used within the longer shots
• Some of the shot the actors come out of the shot slightly, and it was said that it loses impact on the action thought the shots
• Also, during the arguing shots, the use of close ups would be better, because its shows more emotion and action in the music video.
• We should make the part where we first used the spilt screen shot and use it for a longer period of time

Positives:

• They like the black and white scenes, they said that it was humorous and really effective to show that what was filmed was a very long time ago, almost a life time away.
• Also, they really enjoyed the editing techniques used in the frame, it was very dramatic and creative
• Another point was that they like the stop motion used at the end, it was really effective in showing the uneasiness and the addiction in her.
• Also, they liked the shot in the bathroom where she is singing, the part that they enjoyed the most was the use of the mirror to show her reflection

What happened during filming

On Tuesday,we filmed the Jermaine the main actor walking down the road of Atkins Rd, there were also two other actors that was involved who were Rhianna and Victoria who played the main characters close friends. Here all the characters were walking down the road then the main male actor then gets a hone call but there is no one on the phone, so gets slightly angry, then carries on walking into school.

We did a long shot of the characters walking along the road, and an extreme closeup of his phone and a close up of the characters face.

The only complications were that we had to continuously stop and start filming because we were in front of the schools gates and people needed to get past, also being a far distance that they had to walk towards us it made it difficult for the rest of the characters to know when we were ready to film them.

The parts that i really enjoyed filming that day was the actual filming because we had a chance to put different shots and angles because we wanted to make that section in the music to have a variety to it

Then after this we did the picnic section, in this part, we filmed them walking towards the picnic area and also them sitting down being cosy.

For these shots I bought in the props; the blanket and the basket. We did a extreme closeup of the couple holding hands and a wide shot of them walking. Also, we did a high angle shot, a extreme close up and also a wide shot of this as well

The complications of this shot was that the characters were feeling awkward being close so we had to take many takes, and also because we were filming in the open there was a few people coming around and looking and also distracting the actors.
The part i enjoyed the most was that we were giving the actors directions. Also, the parts that was working with us well was the weather, the weather was really sunny and warm, this helped showed the feelings to the camera

The third of filming here we filmed two different sections of the music video so this day day was very productive. The first section was Fatimata the main female actor crying in the toilets and dramatic. Here to add effect we added dramatic makeup and also used artificial lighting.


The problems with filming was that there wasn't sufficient spacing, so the camera was hard to move about, and also all the crew members. Also, having to reapply the makeup up after each shoot was very very time consuming and also having to redirect the actor into what we wanted was difficult but i came out well. Also, because it was artificial setting it took some time to see which would would have the right lighting to we had to play around with a lot of switches.

Also each crew member had a chance to film so we divided the shooting into sections with gave us a chance to experiment fully.


I was in charge of putting the makeup on Fatimata which was the most fun and also having a chance to experiment. Since the bathroom which we used had like a corridor to enter it we managed to come up of using the wall as well so it wouldn't just be using the toilet seat as a setting

The second section is were we filmed Fatimata begging for Jermaine back. This was done in the common room. The difficulties that came up was that Fatimata wasn't 100% comfortable with Jermaine as well so it took some time of the characters to warm up initially, also people were also distracting the actors as well. But, the positives was that although the filming was dramatic it the set had a good vibe, the communication was strong and no one got in the way of anything

What we did on the first day of shooting

Yesterday we recorded the clip of when she storms out the classroom. We used our actor Fatimata but we had some complications, we did not find a male role character to play the part so we had filmed mostly Fatimata in various ways. Initially we filmed her in a wide angle following shot and the closeup. Then we realised that adding more shots would be better to add to the variety. So, we did an high angle shot.

While we were shooting this sequence we used a computer to play the track so that it would be easier to Fatimata to mine to the song in tune.

Also, there was another problem, we originally started out using the tri-pod but then we didn't see the smooth consistency that we wanted as a result. Then we decided to film something else to stabilise the camera, so use used a stack of dictionaries on the table. With this we got the results that we wanted.
After watching all of the shots that took place we uploaded them to Premiere Pro.

Because We are planning to shoot outside for the next sequence, my partner download the soundtrack with the music video on her itunes so we are making up for not having a computer before hand.
Next day for shooting the props that we are preparing to bring in is the basket, blanket for the picnic. And also dramatic makeup, the red. green, black top, and black shorts with black trousers.

Audience feedback from Animatic Presentation

For my animatic presentation I debriefed my my animatic presentation to the class, telling them all the shots and what they consisted of, this is including; the angles, action, the dialogue and the reasons behind them. And alos telling them the storyline.

My music video is about a girl who was formally dating a boy, then they broke up. And though out out this video we are going to see her reaction and how she deals with it. This is shown by the music video being narrative. The girl originally starts of on her bed and crying, this is shown in stop motion. The next shot is a flash back showing the couple together, but showing possessiveness. Then seeing them walking home then they being to have an argument with each other, then the next shot is both of their close up to show their reaction and emotion to it. After this, there is a shot of her being left behind while he walks a way from her but also the relationship. Then we see them in a classroom with the dated music and jus showing them in a happy place. Then we she her returning to her room and the stop motion begins again.

In this section we see a spilt screen shot mostly, this is used to show the reaction of the boy and the girl. This is where we can start to see the obsessiveness being shown by her calling him and he not answering. The a close up of pictures to add to the effect

Positive Feedback:

1. The element which was part of my music video that people liked the most was that the element of emotion and vulnerability was shown thought out. This with the close up of their faces and the time of music with the actions


2. Also they also liked the part of the music where the musical would be shown in black and white to show a flash back, they said it was effective because when they were together it was like a life time away. With this feedback, it allows me to think of trying to put more of different types of elements into and by taking that risk will allow us to be more confident.



3. Also, when asking people what they felt what the music video was about, they all came up with mostly different meanings, which was what one of the main aims was about. One person said it was mainly about being obsessed with a boy, another said that it was mainly about thinking your in love and another said, that girls need to be more stronger and less dependent
   


4. With the element of having split screen in the shot, it shows both characters reaction and not just the main character, this shows the other feelings of the character, thus also relating to more people. Also, having a different shot type allowed it to be more dynamic.
   

Negative Feedback

1. They said that there was not a variety shots which was shown,it was not rich enough and we needed to incorporate more into the music video, by doing this we are more able add more emotion and fright into the video and also a more of a chance for people to relate to the video.
   


2. They also realised that some of the shots were too long, and this makes the viewer lose interest and begin to start to get bored. So to make it more interesting we are going to add more shots and more variety to it.


3. There was alot of confusion with the order of shots because of the back and forth action with them being happy and then them arguing and breaking up, which almost let them baffled.
   
   

Audience Feedback - My Presentation

To receive audience feedback i made a presentaion on prezi.com and showed it to my other media classmates to receive feedback.

They said that they liked the idea of the music video and they they felt it was interesting and creative, especially in the way we are planning to use the split screen and the stop-motion, but they were wondering how are we going to do this, so we how to do it and also explained the effect of stop-motion.

Another point was that because stop-motion was very time consuming, maybe we should think of cutting the time to make it shorter or if to use it at all.

Lady Gaga - Should she have won The Best Music Video?

I personally think that Lady Gaga is a different individual and this also relates to her music videos. But in Bad Romance I was left confused, pondering what the music video is actually about and does not relate to me. The use of the different elements of the music i.e.; the futuristic lighting and also clothing, the male domination and the baby face look, i believe made everything just so brazier.
I think that she shouldn't have won because although it is different, i don't think that she just jumbled different ideas. I think other people in the category made better videos than her and the only reason why she won was her position in the public eye.

Presentation Using Prezi

In this presentation I am showing an u=audience the ideas i am planning to include into my music video and i am planning to here back what they felt about it. I will explaining to them the genre, the target audience, the inspiring music videos, themes which i have used.

My music video i am planning to use is Beyonce - 'Why don't you love me?'. The genre of this music video is Pop and RnB. The target audience is females, 16-20 year olds, who enjoy listening to artists like Kano and Monica and whose hobbies include singing, dancing and music

This letter below is to show that i have asked permission for the use of the music from the copyright holder that i plan to use for my A-Level Media Project. The reason that i am asking permission is because of the copyright and also to show the copyright holder that i am asking permission

My Typical Target Audience

Primarily, my music video would be targeted toward girls around the ages of 15-24 years. The music that my target audience person would typically listen to is RnB, the artists that they would be be inspired or like to listen to would be people like would be Beyonce, Alicia Keys and Monica.

This person would typically enjoy dancing and going out to various house parties, raves and general occasions with music involved during the weekend and the during the week listen to the music on the way to school and in the background during revision. The person would typically be between secondary school/college/university. The typical type of transportation that the person would take is bus/train (which ever is more convenient).

My typical audience's favourite take-away food is Chinese food; Singapore rice with sweet and sour sauce and her favourite home cooked food would be jerk chicken and rice and peas. Their favourite drink would be j20 and the flavour would be apple and black current and this person doesn't like any type of vegetables.

The typical holiday that this person goes to is Ayia Napa. This would be because my typical audience would like going out to parties and having fun, and Ayia Napa is a well known Island for this.

Influential Music Videos Research

1. Her morning elegance - Oren Lavie

The reasons in which i have chosen 'Her Morning Elegance by Oren Lavie' are because i think the music video contains a different editing technique and camera angle than compared to the music videos which are in the mainstream currently. I believe that this music video spends more time relating to the lyrics and allowing the song itself more relateable to people. This is done by the video having a centre focus which is seen throughout the video, with the same settings, but still managing to change dramatically. Also, i am also inspired by the remake of the video called 'Her Morning Elegance - Official Parody'. This music video imitates the general setting and technique used but still incorporating their own style into the original version. The reason why this songs inspires me is because the songs video has a hidden meaning which really empowers peoples judgment to do things, and makes an example of a everyday person.

2. Mariah Carey - Obsessed

'Mariah Carey - Obsessed is another inspirational video to me because the concept and the plot of the music video is different and unusual also humorous. I think that the use of the artist playing two contrasting main characters is very creative. Also the plot, having a stalker is but in this music video it has made the perspective desirable to the some viewers. By the artist playing two characters there is a sense of creativity and humours mixed in. The video uses the sense of location and customs to make the video stand out, this mixture really allows the video to be what it is today.

3. Ryan Leslie - Addiction

I chose 'Ryan Leslie - Addiction' because i feel that the feeling of being obsessed and being constantly watched is scary and frightening. The lyrics and the video has a very strong relationship between each other. The with the use of shots and camera angles the music video and the way that editing allows the video to seem very voyeuristic towards the main characters. The music video is almost balanced towards the music element and the plot of the music video, but still manages to be well balanced and blends easily though the different shots.

Beyonce - Why don't you love me?

'Beyonce - Why don't you love me?' This music is very dramatic, emotional and desperate. I think these characteristics makes this video stand out among others. Also, the use of the 50's time period make it different as well. The image of the perfect housewife is shown but also the contradiction of it is also shown. The music could be interpreted in many ways, which makes the video more relate able to women. The music video also uses different camera editing e.g. skipping a frame to make it more fast paced and adding to dramatised video and singing. The lyrics and the video also have a strong relationship between each other.
