Evaluation Question 1

In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?

'Why don't you love me' by Beyonce. The genre to this was Pop and RnB. I think that my music video both goes against and is the conventions of the genre. Although both of the genres are quite different in what you expect froma music video i think we incorporated well in the media products.
Rnb is generally narrative and was what the music video we made was. It was the artist telling her story though her point of view and her side of the story, Whereas, in Pop it was usually someone dancing and having fun.

In the first scene it goes against the RnB genre convention, this is because seeing stop motion isn't what is seen in music videos in RnB, becasue we usually seeing a lengthy amount of footage and not cut up in sections. But ways that it does go with the conventions is that the artist is the centre of focus in this, also the music video does not show the empowerment of women, and that is what is being shown n this footage, she is seen as vulnerable, weak and with no amount of power. This also goes against the Pop genre because of the lack of enthuiasims of want to dance and it quite glum, especially with the dark lighting almost makes the viewer to feel depressed.

The scene which involves the artist and a male companion is differently going againt the RnB conventions and the Pop. Firstly, becuase the tune is quite chirppy and happy this would'nt be expected but we incooperted what would, e.g the use of the flash back to black and white is commonly used but the ways the characters acted wasnt. The reason why we wanted to go against it is that we felt it would be more intresting to see it like this and also it would be more intresting to see the other side of their relationship on a happier not than constant conflict. We chose to use that perid of tie with the music because it best reflected how they felt, which was happy and careful at that moment.

This part that goes aginst the conventions is the use of the split screen when they are in the classroom. The use of this was to show two shots of them being together and basically emphasising her pain. Another time we used it was when the couple were arguing and then they ent their separate way, using split-screen here was to show the different paths they are walking on and the differnce between what they want and reality to add drama and the sense of the loninsess.
